Castle of Mey - 1952 - 2002

Open to the public for the first time the historical home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

The Castle of Mey has been described as "the Jewel in the Crown of Caithness tourism".

Tours of the castle and gardens are immensely popular and there is a new visitors centre and tearooms newly opened for 2007.

Why not try a day trip over to the famous Orkney Islands

The Passenger ferry “Pentland Venture” sets sail from John O’Groats from May until the end of September.  The trip to Orkney takes about 40 minutes where a waiting coach will take you on a fascinating tour of the island.  There are two tours one called the Maxi Day Tour and the other the Highlights Tour. 

Here are the 2007 prices.

Maxi Day Tour of Orkney - £38 (children under 16 £19)
It departs from John O’Groats at 9.00a.m. and returns leaving Orkney at 7.00 p.m.

Highlights Day Tour of Orkney35 (children under 16 £10)
